Valentine’s Day is the perfect occasion to create a special, home-cooked meal for your loved one. This year, skip the crowded restaurants and impress your significant other with a restaurant-quality strip loin steak dinner that’s both elegant and easy to prepare. Paired with a rich red wine reduction and some of Karl’s Meats’ premium products, this meal is sure to set the mood for a romantic evening.

Strip loin steaks are a fantastic choice for a special occasion. They’re tender, flavorful, and cook up beautifully, making them a favorite for steak lovers. Plus, they’re versatile enough to pair with a variety of sides and sauces, like the luxurious red wine reduction in this recipe.


The Recipe: Strip Loin Steak with Red Wine Reduction

Serves 2


Ingredients:

2 strip loin steaks (about 8 oz each) (10% OFF FOR VALENTINES DAY)


Salt and freshly ground black pepper


2 tbsp olive oil


2 tbsp butter


3 garlic cloves, minced


2 sprigs fresh rosemary


1 cup red wine (Merlot or Cabernet Sauvignon works well)


½ cup beef broth (found at Karls Meats)


1 tbsp balsamic vinegar


1 tsp honey


Optional sides: Roasted garlic mashed potatoes, sautéed asparagus, or a fresh salad.


 

Instructions:

Prepare the Steaks: Pat the strip loins dry with paper towels and season generously with salt and pepper on both sides.


Sear the Steaks: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the steaks and sear for 3-4 minutes per side for medium-rare (adjust time for desired doneness). Add butter, garlic, and rosemary to the skillet during the last 2 minutes of cooking, basting the steaks with the melted butter.


Rest the Steaks: Remove the steaks from the skillet and let them rest on a plate, loosely covered with foil. (4 minutes)


Make the Red Wine Reduction: In the same skillet, add red wine, beef broth, balsamic vinegar, and honey. Scrape up any browned bits from the bottom of the pan. Simmer until the sauce is reduced by half and slightly thickened, about 5-7 minutes.


Serve: Slice the steaks against the grain and drizzle with the red wine reduction. Serve with your choice of sides.
